Organized in 1956 and serving the Central Savannah River Area in Augusta, Georgia and Aiken, South Carolina, The Savannah River Sail and Power Squadron is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and other boating related subjects. Our members are local boating families who contribute to the nearby communities by promoting safe boating through education. We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom. Our squadron's activities involve the three primary objectives of United States Power Squadrons: community service, continuing education, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our fellow members.
Our educational offerings include a public boating course which includes basic seamanship, boat systems, safety, Homeland Security, navigational aids, basic piloting (charts), federal / state regulations and more. We also teach advanced courses in Piloting and Navigation, as well as special courses covering topics like Weather and Marine Electronics.
Besides offering boating education, we promote safe boating by conducting courtesy Vessel Safety Checks of boats at the request of their owners. We also help NOAA keep our nautical charts accurate by reporting chart corrections through the Co-Op Charting Program.
