Welcome to the Mattapoisett Power SquadronThe Mattapoisett Power Squadron (MPS), one of eight squadrons that comprise District 14 of the United States Power Squadrons®, serves the boating public on Massachusetts' south coast and Buzzards Bay from Fall River to Onset. Generally, our members come from the cities and towns immediately bordering the coast and Buzzard’s Bay MPS received its charter in 1952. Several of the original charter members remain active in the squadron. MPS’s purpose is self-education, fraternal boating activities and boating safety. Membership is open to persons successfully completing the Squadron Boating®, Boat Smart® or ABC® courses, or to persons who are graduates of the US Naval Academy, US Coast Guard Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy - Deck Officer license, holders of a USCG 6 Pak License or above, or have successful completed any safe boating course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators. The squadron offers its members five advanced grades courses and six elective courses taught by volunteer instructors at various times during the year. Please refer to the educational section on this website for a schedule of classes as well as other pertinent information. Other benefits are offered to our members such as: socials and dinner events, boating rendezvous, district and national conferences, safety demonstrations, and GPS classes. Cooperative charting is an activity that involves verifying navigational chart information for NOAA. Members also may take part in our Vessel Safety Check program that involves actual safety inspections of private vessels of all kinds. Please feel free to contact me or any of the other officers listed here if you have any questions. Thanks for tuning in. Good sailing!
