Edition of the Milford Power Squadron Charles Island Bell Newsletter |
Well the snow is still falling and has been every week. Seems that we are not getting an early spring this year
although Easter Holiday is quite early. It's a holiday I always associated with "taking off the cover's and
getting equipment ready for the spring cleanup. If you require a lot of items for this cleanup I suggest you check
the USPS main page on the WEB of your PC since you can locate some inexpensive sales of commissioning equipment
at a discount.
I had no response to our request for a SAIL course from any member but The offer is still open to those who may
be interested. SAIL 101 would be about 6 weeks at one lesson a week and you would continue in September after the
summer vacations. Give me a call if you are interested
Like wise, Marine electronics can be started with ME101 this spring and then continue with ME102 and ME103 next
fall. If you want to get caught up on all those electronic gadget's that we carry in our boats today and their
use for Navigation, you should take this course. Its quite a change from the old ME course and I would venture
to say it is necessary for today's boater-- both power and sail..
We are trying to offer these courses for our members since they are now modularized and will give you sufficient
time to take each module as your schedule permits. Give me a call with your thoughts on 876-8261.We are only going
to present these courses if we get a sufficient registration of about 5 students or more.
Hope you all will attend the Change of Watch Dinner as we are starting another Boating Year with great expectations
and should celebrate the new (old) Bridge of Officers and wish them well in all their undertakings. (See the events
calendar for details)
Here 's wishing you are Happy Easter and happy sailing
Bob Reeves, Cdr.

I'm happy to report that in the EM 102 exam for Engine Maintenance member Ryan Glad received
a mark of 100%. Good job Ryan, not too many students can achieve that distinction.
We requested a response to a notice that we were presenting the SAIL 101 course for all members. No prerequisites
were required and it was a good opportunity to catch up on those techniques that are so valuable. It is also a
great time and place to meet sail-boaters such as yourself that enjoy this type of sailing. Please give me a call
if interested or if your have any comments regarding the SAIL course. 876-8261
We are doing the same for the beginning of the Marine Electronics course (ME101). If you are interested in starting
off in this course, give me a call. He course is divided into 3 modules and ME102 and ME102 will be given in the
Fall. Let me know soonest. Same phone number.
Our JN course is continuing and if the weather breaks we may have a chance to take some sights which are long overdue.
The class is doing a great job with the basics and I trust will do equally well with the sights.
Piloting Course completed and George Sender should be congratulated for a good job. We are currently waiting grades
from National which are due any day now.
The Boat Smart Courses have been filling up rapidly. We are presenting one course a month until June and are getting
15 to 20 students in each class. See the Education calendar for the dates of the upcoming classes.
Hope this weather changes soon so we can get the boat ready for the summer sailing season. See you all at the Change
of Watch.
