Hopefully, we have given you an idea of what we are all about
and answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

We sincerely hope that you will consider taking advantage of the social,
educational and volunteer activities that the squadron has to offer.

Shrewsbury Power Squadron is the local unit of the United States Power Squadrons. USPS was founded in 1914 when most boaters were sailors to promote knowledge and seamanship in handling power boats. Today, USPS consists of both power and sail boaters and boat ownership is not a requirement. USPS got involved in its mission of education during the war years when USPS was called upon to help educate the newly drafted sailors in the use of power boats. Today, we are a family based, not-for-profit, volunteer based organization dedicated to the promoting of boater education and boating safety.
Shrewsbury Power Squadron has been an active part of Monmouth County, NJ since 1940 and is centered around the Middletown to Eatontown area.
There are several types of activities we are involved in:
Social:
We have 4 meetings a year with a speaker and a light dinner.
We hold Social Events such as a Barbeque/Auction in the summer,USPS Founders’ Day celebrations, and dinners at local restaurants. We also get together for District conferences, golf outings, theater, boating events and many other activities.
There are boating and non-boating activities take place through-out the state and as a USPS member, you are welcome to take place in a wealth of activities.
Civic Service:
Our civic service activities are very important part of USPS as an organization dedicated to promoting boating safety.
In addition to the Boating safety class you just took, the Squadron also offers many other Educational Opportunities Seminars on boating topics, On-the-Water Education, and on-line Courses.
Vessel Safety Checks are a joint program by the USCG Aux and the USPS to help our fellow boaters to know what is needed on their boat and ensures that if they get pulled over by the USCG, their boat will be in compliance. A member of the squadrons comes on board with a check list of what is needed and passing vessels get do display a 2013 VSC sticker.
Education:
In addition to the classes offered to the public, our Members further their own knowledge through a wealth of advanced members classes such as Seamanship, Piloting, Navigation, off-Shore and near shore Cruise Planning, Marine Electronics, and Engine Maintenance, Sailing and Weather.
