Valley Ho Power Squadron |
Whale Watching Cruise
The Whale Watching Cruise is scheduled for a Saturday in January or February of
each year to observe the southward migration of gray whales along the Southern
California coast. The particular date will depend upon the timing of the whales
migration, and they do not necessarily utilize the Gregorian calendar. Power
boats of the Valley Ho Squadron fleet will take members as space permits for the
observation of these behemoths. The whales will not be approached, disturbed or
harassed by these observers, and all observations will be made from a reasonable
distance in accordance with California and federal regulations.
The cruise normally starts at Marina del Rey, and following the observations, a lunch may
be held on the dock with food supplied by members or Sea Gals, or the group may
assemble at a nearby restaurant. The purpose of the cruise is social and
fellowship, as well as providing some learning and understanding of the whales behavior.
