2006 Year in ReviewP/C Robert E. Glaser, JN2006 Chair ofBoating ActivitiesThis season we have had several very successful outings: Memorial Day weekend:
Edenton was beautiful. We had six boats and great weather, the
restaurants were
great, and we had a wonderful cook out at the Edenton Town Docks Park.
Saturday
we cruised up the Chowan river about 25 nm and Sunday we cruised the
Roanoke,
Middle, and Cashie Rivers. Following our river cruise we gathered for
lunch and
a swim at the beach at Mackeys. A good time was had by all. Boats
participating
included Yes Dear II, Sallbee II,
Millie G, Liberty, Happy Girl, and Puppy Dog.
The Town Dock at Edenton has wonderful facilities
and the price is hard to beat. 17-18 June:
We
had our Luau and local cruising at Holiday Isle. Twenty five people
attended and
three boats participated in boating and CoOp Charting. Millie and I
regret we
missed the outing but our little one (Lauren Marie Winkler, The D/27 Rendezvous in Washington was held 14 thru 16 July. RMPS
Fleet visits the State Docks at Bath 11-13 August: After some discussion with our boating participants and committee we had decided to change the venue for our August Cruise to Washington. The consensus is more people can get there and the fuel costs and accommodations will be more reasonable. The Cruise in the Washington / Pamlico River
area turned
out great despite a threatening weather forecast. We had five boats, Millie
G, Yes Dear, Miss
Anne, Y Knot, and Liberty,
and fifteen people participate. Lee and Penny Gardner, friends from
Wilson,
joined us on Friday with their The weather was partially overcast and thus a very pleasant temperature. We did get some good wind during our raft-up in Blount’s Bay for lunch. Later the sun came out and was delightful during our walking tour of Bath. I must say the Washington Town Docks are very nice. The state dock in Bath is also great for a stopover. The women of the squadron really enjoyed the shopping scene in Washington until the men of the squadron got ugly. I’ll leave that story to be told by the participants. Needless to say, getting everyone together for an 1100 departure was like attempting to herd cats. Finally at 1200 we departed! Best of all we all went home holding hands. 2-4 September: Holden Beach was disrupted by Tropical Storm (and only 4 mph short of Hurricane) Ernesto, which came ashore only a few miles to the east of Holden Beach on Friday, 1 September. We hope to see many of you on the water this
year as we
will have many boating opportunities for fun together.
