Past Commander's BBQ
March 21, 2009
Canyon Lake, AZ
Your hosts, the squadron Past Commanders. With great pleasure we announce the return of the Past Commanders BBQ (PC BBQ) to the Canyon Lake venue on 21 March 2009. After numerous requests from members we were able to obtain campsites at the Canyon Lake Marina Campground.
The PC BBQ is an annual event that has the distinction of usually being the first major boating rendezvous after the Change of Watch (COW). The BBQ is where we get to meet and be catered to by members who have given extensively in the past by being officers of the squadron and serving with distinction as Phoenix Sail & Power Squadron Commanders. These members have shown great generosity and leadership by showing us how to enjoy and share the camaraderie of our organization.
Joining your boating friends at this BBQ is a must. You can bring your boats, trailers, motor home, and tents to stay for the night or weekend. Some just come up for the food or evening. Make room in your itinerary to attend this event. You will regret missing the adventure. Many things have happened in the past that are forever written in our memories and many great stories from the past. Now you too can be a part of the folk tales fishing stories). We have 10 RV sites reserved on a limited basis until 15 February. After that date, they will be released to the general public. If you are interested in reserving one of these sites, call Bill Johnson @ 602-525-6318 or email BILLJ6@GMAIL.COM.
Canyon Lake Marina Restaurant has a Friday fish fry for those who can get out there early enough on Friday. Saturday is breakfast on your own. Most who bring boats will give rides or you can go on hikes, visit, enjoy lawn games or sleep late.
The schedule for this years events will probably mirror prior years with the activities starting around 1500 (3 PM). A General Membership meeting will be held after dinner. Sunday in years past has resulted is great potluck breakfast for the campers. Then we have to say goodbye until the next event at Katherine Landing in April.
More detailed information and maps will be included in the March Bosns Pipe. Call Bill Johnson if you have any questions.* * * Past Commanders BBQ

Past Commanders serveFive of the many squadron past commanders became servers at the 2008 version of the annual event. Held for the first time in recent memory at Lake Pleasant, about 50 people enjoyed the beef brisket, roast chicken, beans, cole slaw, pie and ice cream. Pictured are (from left) Ron Werner (organizer extraordinaire), John Lusson, Fred Drawert, Bill Johnson, (past and present commander) and Lee Whitehead. The event netted over $500 for the squadrons treasury. All the past commander present were involved in some way with the event, although they may have been camera shy for this photo.
