Boating Safety

Are you ready for a blue light special--a safety stop by the Coast Guard or the State Natural Resources Police?

Do you know what the law requires to operate a boat in a safe condition?

If you said no, Potomac River Power Squadron can help you with a Vessel Safety Check.

The VSC Program helps to achieve voluntary compliance with federal and state recreational boating safety laws, particularly with regard to the carriage of safety equipment while raising boater awareness about safety and environmental issues through voluntary contact by a Vessel Examiner (VE). VE discussions with recreational boaters is designed to motivate maintaining and operating their boats in a safe manner, taking boating safety courses to increase their knowledge and skills in boating, and promoting safe boating.

The result of the safety check is shared with the vessel captain only, not with the authorities. If attention is needed in an area, we gladly recheck the vessel after corrective action has been taken.

The Power Squadron offers safety checks as a service to recreational boaters. There is never a charge for a Vessel Safety Check.

For information, or to schedule an inspection of your recreation, contact Harry Seeback, 301-530-4633.
