A
Message From the Commander
St. Helens Sail and Power Squadron, A Unit of United States Power Squadrons,
District 32, was Chartered on 7 April 2003. Our mission is to provide
an opportunity for Safe Boating Fun, and Education, to boaters living
in Columbia County Oregon as well as Longview and Kelso Washington. We
plan on doing this by scheduling Cruises, Social Activities and by providing
Boat Smart Classes for the general public. There will be classes from
Seamanship to Celestial Navigation as well as elective courses such as
Engine Maintenance, Sail, Marine Electronics, Cruise Planning, and
Weather.
In addition members of the Squadron participate in Cooperative Charting
activities reporting corrections and additions to charts to the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Such changes assist in keeping
charts up-to-date for other mariners. As a member, you will also have
an opportunity to involve yourself in the Vessel Safety Check Program
(VSCP). This program allows you to help others by offering Vessel Safety
Checks (VSCs) to recreational boaters and certain classes of commercial
vessels.
