17 Nov 09 - GPS Seminar - At the Dale Center. Five students completed the seminar.
Recent past offerings of ABC3 -
27 Apr 11 -The 12 hour version was completed at BOCES Niagara Conference Center. Two students successfully completed the course and accepted the 6 month trial LSPS membership.
13 March 2010 - a class completed at the Dale Center in Lockport, graduating 6 students.
2 August 09 - A special offering was completed, graduating 9 Buffalo firefighters.
16 May 09 - A class was completed , graduating 11 new safe boaters.
Seamanship -
2010 -Cancelled - Lack of students
2009-at Olcott YC, was completed in late August, with 4 students successfully completing the course.
Piloting Course - Started 6 Oct 10, at BOCES, Niagara Conference Center. Two students successfully completed.
Advanced Piloting - Class completed 19 Mar 09 - 4 students successfully completed .
Junior Navigation - Course completed, was taught by PC Almon Leach, SN. This is a challenging course and absolutely requires a fair amount of work outside of class time. LSPS has an excellent set of sextants for the required celestial sights. June 2010- 3 students successfully completed, with high grades.
Navigation Course - Started 28 Oct 10. Two students successfully completed all requirements & have received their 'N' grades.
Weather - Experienced instructor, George McKinney, taught. Course started 2 Dec 09 & all students have successfully completed the course.
Instructor Development - October 2009, at Orleans/Niagara Technology and Conference Center,
4124 Saunders Settlement Road,
Sanborn NY 14132. 5 students passed with flying colors. Three students were from LSPS, 1 from Buffalo Squadron and one from Hamburg Squadron.
Re-certification Seminar - Was held 15 Sep 10 at the Commander's home (4055 Purdy, Lockport,NY). Two instructors re-certified.
Special event "All Women Boating Class", was held 18 - 19 Aug 09 at Tuscarora Yacht Club. Class was completed by 12 women, who have expressed interest in continuing their education.

Past Squadron Meetings & Other Events
19 Nov 13, fifteen members heard from the new chief of the USCG base in Youngstown. The meeting was held at Woodcocock Brothers, at 638 Lake St., Wilson. Those not present missed a fine talk and a good dinner.
6 June 13 at Olcott Yacht Club. Alex Gill, from the Border patrol, led an active discussion about crossing the US/Canadian border in a boat. We also enjoyed a fine dinner at the club. As anticipated, there was a large response (31 present) to this meeting.
16 Mar 13, Change of Watch was held at Shamus Restaurant (98 West Ave. Lockport). Dinners were selected from various Irish selections. The small, but enthusiastic,group enjoyed the meal & a short meeting.
2 Feb 13, Founders' Day at Windows on the Green, jointly with Swiftwater Sail & Power Squadron. About 40 members enjoyed dinner and socializing, while celebrating USPS's origin.
4 Dec 12 - Christmas party at The Fieldstone on Transit Rd. in Lockport. Ten members enjoyed a fine dinner and great conversation. The Prince Henry award was also presented to the Squadron (see picture on Picture page).
28 Oct 12 - 24 members, including 5 from LSPS, attended the inter-squadron luncheon at Westwood Country Club & enjoyed a great lunch & a talk by David White, from Sea Grant, on what is being done to improve our waterways and promote safe boating.
21 Aug 12 - 1730 to dusk -Rafting party was held in Wilson harbor - Pizza was provided by the Squadron. Members with boats provided rides for others. 10 members enjoyed a meal, great conversation & a beautiful sunset. See pictures on the picture page.
24 May 12 at The Wilson House - Keith Burhans, a Lockport native,was our speaker. A competitive sailor, he has sailed all over the US and Europe. A boating accident caused a loss of his legs below his knees, but that has only "inconvenieced" him and he continues to sail his Sonar, has competed in national and international Para Sailng events, including the 2000 Sydney Olympics, along with coaching the Greek team in Athens in 2004. He also chaired the world regatta at the Rochester Yacht Club where he is now Commodore.
20 Mar 12 - Change of Watch at the Fieldstone Country Inn in Lockport. A large group of members had a good dinner, saw their new officers elected and installed by the District 6 Commander. A short meeting was held to discuss future plans.
26 Feb 12 - 11AM - Founder's Day at Waterstreet Landing, Lewiston. 55 people enjoyed a great brunch & a view of the Niagara River at this Inter-Squadron event. Robert Emerson, Administrator of Old Fort Niagara, gave an entertaining talk on the War of 1812. See pictures on the picture page.
24 Jan 12 - 7 PM - Davison Road Inn (383 Davison Rd, Lockport). This Squadron dinner meeting was attended by 18 members & was followed by an interesting talk by Alex Gill-Lead Border Patrol Agent with the Buffalo Intelligence Unit.22 Oct 11 - St. Catharines Museum - A group of 8 took an educational tour of the Welland Canals Museum, including watching a large freighter pass through Lock 3 of the canal. This was followed by a good lunch meeting and friendly conversation.
17 Sep 11 - A navigation exercise was completed by 5 members, aboard the Secretary's boat, off Olcott. They enjoyed lunch and beverages at OYC. See photos.
12 July 11 - Summer picnic, at Tuscarora YC, a good time was had by all.
24 May 11monthly meeting was held at the Wilson House. Our speaker was Charlie Obershimer, a long time Captain and owner of Obershimer's, a sailing/boating supply store in Buffalo.
22 Mar 11 - Change of Watch meeting at the Wilson House (300 Lake St (Rt 425), Wilson, NY). New Officers were installed by D/C Paul Flagg, SN.
25 Jan 11 - Meeting at the Wilson House (300 Lake St (Rt 425), Wilson, NY). Captain Sullivan told of his experiences aboard USCG EAGLE and the ship's role in the mission of the Coast Guard Academy.
14 Dec 10- Meeting at the Wilson House (300 Lake St (Rt 425), Wilson, NY). This was the Squadron Christmas party.
26 Oct 10, 1730 (5:30 PM) at the Niagara county Historical Society (215 Niagara Sreet, Lockport) we had a pot luck dinner. Following dinner, we toured the History center on the corner of Church and Ontario streets.28 Sep 10, 1730 (5:30 PM) at Tuscarora YC, Wilson, NY. This was a picnic. To honor those who worked for the Squadron last year, anyone who earned a merit mark last year was FREE. After a brief meeting, attendees learned all the latest details about Boat Operator Certification & what this program may mean in the future.
27 April - Wilson House, Wilson, NY. Program included a presentation by the Red Cross on "Disaster Preparedness" for both boat and home.
23 March, Change of Watch - Wilson House, Wilson, NY. New officers were installed by P/D/C Isabel Warren, P, who also presented an update on changes occurring in USPS.
23 February, Wilson House, Wilson, NY, - Elections were held. Capt. James Smith, a marine surveyor, presented valuable information on preparing your boat, as well as giving us some insight into his experiences as a surveyor.
13 February, Founders' Day - A joint Founders' Day celebration was set up by Hamburg Power Squadron, with all Western NY Squadrons invited. It was held at Chefs Restaurant, where the 5 Squadron Commanders gave there views of Founders' Day.
26 January, Van Horn Mansion - Presentation was given by Joe Moll, of the Niagara County Sheriff Department, Canine Division, discussing their experiences with their dogs.
