Commander's Welcome
The Charles River Sail and Power Squadron welcomes you to our Web Site. While individually we are recreational boaters, we are united by a common interest in promoting safe boating through education and example. Our activities include the presentation of boating courses open to the public, which provide necessary certification in some states, performing civic functions including Safe Boating Week activities, and varied social functions on and off the water. Most of our members come from northwest of Boston, but our boats are located on the coast and on the lakes all over New England, from Maine to Rhode Island.
America's Boating Course is open to the public, and all interested in boating - especially owners - are invited to take this course. Click on the "Courses" item on our web menu to find out dates and places when America's Boating Course is being held.
For those who would prefer to learn safe boating by means of a self-paced interactive course, check out America's Boating Course (ABC) now being offered on a CD or online.
Charles River Sail and Power Squadron is a non-profit organization affiliated with the United States Power Squadrons® (USPS®). Other organizations such as the Massachusetts Environmental Police, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Association of Safe Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), and the US Coast Guard support our education and civic programs.
Organized in 1914, USPS is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education. We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom. USPS has some 45,000 members organized into 450 squadrons across the country and in some US territories. USPS is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions.
Boaters like us have found early on that our sport is uniquely compelling and that our time on the water is all too brief. We also have discovered that boats are a considerable investment in time and money. That is why we have taken the most important step - investing in ourselves - by learning how to operate them safely and confidently. Upon successful completion of the Public Boating Course, Squadron membership is encouraged. This opens the door to a comprehensive series of excellent advanced level boating courses.
As you browse our website you will notice it full of frequently updated information on the events and news of the squadron. If you find that you have the same interests and goals as ours, join us. You will learn from our instructors and enjoy our fellowship.
