2014 Rails Across the Water
Commander Stu Trout, JN entertained members and guests in
the Bedford, Mass. Historic 1955 Budd Rail Diesel Car on October
17 with his talk: "Rails Across the Water"
Commander Trout provided a lively talk about the relationship between railroading and boats. He explained how early rail transportation relied on ferries and barges to move rail traffic - both freight and passenger - across small and large bodies of water. The practice was minimized starting in the 1930's when steel bridges became possible on a large scale.
